Huh?, 2022pen and marker on paper, 20 x 15 cm

ZzzZzZ, 2022pen, marker, ink and oil pastel on paper, 29.6 x 42 cm

Elpi Saranti was born in 1993 and lives and works in Athens. She completed her BFA at the Rhode Island School of Design, USA.

D-D-D-D-D-D, 2022pen, marker, ink and oil pastel on paper, 65 x 50 cm

Saranti’s multi-sensory drawings are filled with colorful patters, natural elements like fire and water and constellations of designed costumes. Paying closer attention to the drawings, we can discern recurring symbolic motifs such as the medusa, ribbons made by cockroachs and symbolizing fear, underwater creatures and rainbows inspired by mythology.

Her new works are populated by animal-human hybrids and as a whole seem to invite us to return to harmonious ways of integrating human activity with the natural environment. The inhabitants of Saranti’s drawings are mystic representations of anthropomorphic creatures, archetypes that reveal a deep insight into human nature – the Homosyreni as the artist calls them- which is also the title of this exhibition.

BiiiiAm, 2022pen, marker, ink and oil pastel on paper, 29.6 x 42 cm

Her work was included in the group exhibition ‘To megalo periptero’ at Rebecca Camhi Gallery in Athens and she was an artist in residence at Tryfon Art Residency in 2021, Mytilini, Greece.
